Details
The Milwaukee CD611 EC Tester is an indispensable device in indoor hydroponic cultivation, for checking the liquids and the quantity of fertilizers in the nutrient solution.
It is a soil electrical conductivity (EC) meter with manual calibration, capable of verifying that the environment is safe from possible power surges or other phenomena that could cause extensive damage to crops.
This pocket electronic tester produced by Milwaukee is a quick, effective and reliable tool which performs the function of measuring electrical conductivity (EC) values , but also of controlling the amount of salt or dissolved solids (TDS) in the water.

How to use and calibrate the EC Meter in hydroponics
Ergonomics and compactness are not the only strengths of an EC Tester. Another added value of this tool is its practicality . In fact, the tester was specifically designed to be simple and direct to use.
Before it can be used, however, the device must be carefully calibrated. Calibrating the Milwaukee CD611 is a fairly easy process to perform. Just follow these few simple steps:
- Turn on the instrument using the ON/OFF button;
- Prepare the appropriate buffer solution (12880 uS/cm);
- Immerse the EC tester in this solution;
- Wait for the player to stabilize;
- Adjust the trimmer, the small screw on the back of the meter, until it reaches the desired value, 128 or 129.
Once set, to proceed with actual use, just dip it in the solution to be examined and check the measurement made on the display. Temperature can affect the conductivity measurement by 2% per degree Celsius.
However, thanks to the automatic temperature compensation system, there is no risk that the external ambient temperature could distort the reading.
Warnings and maintenance advice
To ensure that the instrument does not fail prematurely and to maintain optimal performance, careful and regular maintenance is recommended. To do this, it will be essential to follow some good practices, such as:
- Rinse and clean the EC meter probe with water after each use;
- Clean the probe by soaking it for about 20 minutes in MA9016 cleaning solution, at least once a month.
How to choose the best ph/ec meter
It should be specified that the Milwaukee CD611 is not a ph tester but only an EC tester : checking the ph level is not one of its functions.
However, there are devices on the market that are both pH detectors and EC testers . If you are looking for an EC and Ph meter at the same time, you will have to look for another model.
But if, on the other hand, you need an electrical conductivity meter, then the Milwaukee CD611 is certainly the right model because it combines low cost with guaranteed reliability, to measure EC or TDS values .
