The dry sift is one of the most appreciated and popular methods of hashish extraction. BHO and Ice-o-Lator, Rosin, Finger Hash etc. There are several techniques for transforming the resin of Cannabis inflorescences into a concentrated hash rich in cannabinoids and terpenes.

But dry sift hash extraction is undoubtedly one of the simplest methods with a powerful, high quality and easy to vaporize final result.

This technique does not require expensive equipment. This allows you to perform it at home too with good results. Continue reading our manual to learn about this technique in detail and all the steps to be able to do it yourself.

What is dry sift?

As you may already know, hashish is a cannabis concentrate made up of resin glands and plant material, properly pressed. The percentage of resin and plant material determines its purity and therefore its quality. The hashish resulting from the dry sift technique is extracted by dry sieving.

The dried buds are repeatedly pounded through a fine mesh sieve, causing the trichomes to separate from the remaining plant matter.

The result is a fine powder called Kief which will have to undergo further refining and pressing before becoming dry sifted hashish.

As we have already said, among the various types of smoke, dry sift is the simplest to obtain, in addition to the fact that it is a technique known since ancient times in countries such as Afghanistan and Morocco.

However, the procedure for obtaining it has only been refined and perfected in more recent times.

The purpose of the next paragraph is to explain how to dry sift and all the steps necessary to obtain a good quality hash.

Dry sift extraction: how to do it

For medical cannabis users, dry hash is one of the best smoking experiences. This is because the extraction technique allows us to preserve most of the organoleptic properties of the trichomes. Other methods, however, can also imply significant alterations of the resin and, therefore, of the final product.

But let's see in detail what this hashish extraction technique consists of. Let's first start with what you will need:

  1. A good quantity of dried, tanned, quality and fairly resinous plant material;
  2. Dry Sift Screen, which is a nylon mesh generally ranging in size from 150 to 38 microns. The tighter the mesh, the higher the quality of the hash;
  3. Spatula or other object for scraping (including playing cards, telephone cards, credit cards, etc.);
  4. Pollen press;
  5. A small funnel or a sheet of baking paper to pour the kief into the press;
  6. grinder large enough to shred plant material

Now, let's explain to you step by step how to dry smoke with cannabis plant material:

  • Prepare the cannabis buds by grinding the plant material perfectly
  • Place the sieves on a flat and clean surface, placing them in a column in ascending order: the one with the fine mesh is lower and the larger ones are gradually placed;
  • Spread the crumbled trim onto the top sieve;
  • Begin shaking the dry sifter both horizontally and vertically;
  • Repeat the operation until you get the desired amount of trichomes in the collection tray: you could use a spatula or a credit card to crush the buds and sift out a larger quantity;
  • Remove the tray at the bottom of the sieve and carefully collect all the powder now free of trichomes (kief) in a separate container, using a sharp tool.

At this point you can use dry sifted hashish or decide on a further step by pressing it into blocks. In this case you will need a pollen press which will be filled with kief, using a small funnel or a sheet of baking paper.

The result of pressing is a disk of plant material, the so called coin, which must be carefully stored to avoid deterioration.

Now that you know how to perform the dry sift technique, let's see some useful tips for better extraction.

Dry hash optimal extraction and quality classification

If you want to get the best results in your dry sift smoke production, here are some tips you will need to keep in mind:

  1. Choose plant material of excellent quality and in large quantities: starting from an excellent raw material the final product will certainly be up to par;
  2. Freeze the inflorescences for at least 24 hours before starting the sieving process: the colder they are, the more crumbly the trichomes will be and will come off easily when you pass them through the sieve;
  3. Work in an environment that is not too hot and humid: the temperature must be below 15°C, while the humidity must not exceed 50%;
  4. Always use sieves of different sizes: even if the work takes longer, this way you will be able to obtain a purer final product.

Speaking of purity, now we will explain how the quality of Dry Sift Hash can be classified. Keep reading.

Dry sift static tech innovative technique for maximum purity

Dry sift static tech is a highly innovative extraction technique through which the highest level of hashish purity is obtained, up to 99.9%. Very simply the resin jars are separated from the greenery by exploiting the electrostaticity of the appropriately rubbed and charged plastic materials CD cases, latex materials such as gloves or balloons, when properly rubbed, create an electrostatic charge that magnetizes only the resin droplets and not the plant.

To carry out a static sift hashish extraction you cannot improvise, as well as being very expensive in terms of the result obtained, tests are necessary to refine the technique. Furthermore, the material obtained is very delicate and must be stored in the fridge. To extract static tech hashish, we suggest you rely on someone with experience so as not to waste the plant material in vain attempts.

VISIT THE RESIN EXTRACTION CATEGORY

A hash produced by dry extraction is considered good enough when it has a golden color and a consistency that resembles fine sand. The more intense the aroma, the better its terpene content will also be.

However, the experts of this new twenty years tend to classify the quality parameters through the system of the principle of fusion of the hashish extracted with dry sieving.

Melt level refers to the amount of plant material or resin that remains in the final product. Based on this classification we can distinguish between:

  1. Complete fusion or Full Melt (5-6 stars);
    it is the noblest part of hashish, only trichomes with almost no plant material
  2. Partial Melt or Half Melt (3-4 stars); Hashish always of high quality but where a bit of green has passed
  3. Kief (1-2 stars); it is a mix of trichomes and plant material. According to our experience, kef should also have 3 classifications, since there is excellent quality and poor quality kief. Much depends on the size of the sieve mesh.

Hashish classified as “full melt” is the purest of all, but it is also the rarest and most expensive. This is a level of quality which certainly requires prior experience.

Its high melting refers to the speed with which the material vaporizes when heated and the absence of residues in the nail of the bongs.

Partial fusion ones are obviously less expensive and more popular. They vaporize just as well. They are great to smoke with regular bong pipes and crumbled in tobacco.

Kief, on the other hand, refers to the still raw product of dry sifting. It has no melting point, so it doesn't melt but crackles and burns when smoked. However, as mentioned, it is a product that can reach high quality standards, a lot depends on the mesh of the sieve used, just think that in the Ketama mountains up to 15 years ago women's stockings were used as sieves and the result was an excellent product

How to store dry sift hash

As we have already mentioned in the previous paragraph, dry sift hash produced by dry extraction is extremely versatile and can be used in many ways: bongs, dabs, bowls, blunts or as an ingredient to make edibles. The simplest way, however, is to smoke it mixed with tobacco from a cigarette.

It's also fairly simple to store, especially when compacted into coins with a pollen press. In this format, for example, it is more practical to transport and store.

However, care must be taken to preserve it adequately. Here are some simple rules you can follow:

  • Place the hashish in an airtight container;
  • Keep the container in the fridge to preserve consistency for a long time and slow down decomposition. Otherwise, choose a cool, dark place;
  • Keep it away from humid, high-temperature and overly ventilated environments.
