How dwc hydroponic systems works

DWC hydroponic systems is the acronym of Deep Water Culture , a particular type of hydroponic cultivation where the roots are completely immersed in an oxygenated fertilizer solution. 

It falls into the category of vertical hydroponic systems because the plants grow in suspension just above the nutrient solution while the roots are submerged in deep water.

The main feature is the maximum oxygenation of the roots . Thanks to which it increases the absorption of nutrients by plants. 

Both the DWC ( Deep Water Culture ) and RDWC ( Recirculating Deep Water Culture ) systems for hydroponic growing are composed of: a control vessel and a cultivation vessel, an outlet pipe with a valve, the air pipe, a gasket , a water pump, an efficient airstone, a large tank and mesh pots, which allow for the most even distribution of water and nutrients possible.

  • Constant oxygenation;
  • Better absorption of nutrients;
  • Absence of fungi, molds and algae;
  • Growth and flowering performance on par with other hydroponic and aeroponic systems;
  • Limited electricity consumption.

What is the difference between dwc and rdwc systems?

RDWC systems is the acronym of Recirculating Deep Water Culture , i.e. a culture in deep waters but with recirculation.

What is the difference with a static Deep Water Culture system?

While in a DWC cultivation the roots of the plants grow and expand directly in the tank with the nutrient solution, in the RDWC systems there is a self-contained tank connected to one or more water circulation pumps.

In this way it is possible to distribute the nutrient solution among several pots connected in a circuit. Furthermore, the continuous movement of the fluid, composed of nutrients and loaded with dissolved oxygen:

  • guarantees uniform temperature, pH, EC levels throughout the system;
  • creates ideal aerobic conditions for better, rapid and luxuriant growth of your plants.

An RDWC system is certainly practical because it allows you to grow several plants in hydroponics at the same time. However, it is also more expensive because it requires the installation of multiple pumps, a water cooler and other control devices that could affect your bill.
